Words do hurt – An original puppet skit by Niome Hernandez
(this is small skit between a boy and girl puppet)
BP: (comes up with messy hair and a piece of black felt around the
eye) ohhhhh!!
GP: what on earth happened to you?
BP: I got into a fight at school
GP: what did you fight with a lion or a bear?
BP: worse, much worse
GP: what can be worse than a lion or bear?
BP: Charlie!
GP: what is a Charlie?
BP: Charlie is a kid at school, he’s bigger than the rest of us so he
likes to pick on kids that are smaller
GP: so what happened, I see you got a black eye?
BP: he started calling me names
GP: so because he called you a name you got into a fight? Wait to
Mom see’s you!
BP: I got tired of him picking on me I thought maybe if I fought back
he would stop
GP: mom always told me that we should avoid fights because they
won’t solve anything
BP: well, I got tired of Charlie calling me names
GP: remember the bracelet they gave us in Sunday school it said
“what would Jesus do”?
BP: yea, so?
GP: so think about it “what would Jesus do”, he knows what it’s like to
get picked on and he knows what it’s like to be called names
BP: look little sister this is different
GP: how is it different you were picked on, you were called names,
Jesus went through the same thing!
BP: you know for once in your life, your right
GP: the bible teaches us that Jesus didn’t get angry he prayed for
those who hurt him
BP: are you telling me I should pray for Charlie?
GP: yea, and pray that your black eye disappears before you get home
BP: it’s not going to be easy to pray for Charlie
GP: the bible says, “love your enemies and pray for those who hurt
you” and it looks to me you got hurt
BP: Charlie’s words did hurt me but I only hurt myself by getting into a
fight because now I’ll have to deal with mom and dad
GP: so what are you going to do?
BP: I’m going to pray for Charlie and pray for myself so that I won’t
get angry again and fight
GP: I’m going to say a prayer to
BP: what are you going to pray about?
GP: I’m going to pray for you so that mom and dad don’t punish you
to much for fighting at school
BP: facing them will be worse than facing Charlie!
GP: come on let’s go home (pause) Rocky!
BP: very funny little sis
(puppets exit)
The End
For this skit we used a piece of black felt and cut a hole in the middle and placed it on the puppets eye, it gave the appearance of a black eye.
The kids learned that we should pray for those who pick on us. Fighting is not the answer and we should always stop and think
“what would Jesus do”?
